Quote by taimooruntil the LZW patent expires

It already has: http://www.unisys.com/about__unisys/lzw

PNG has slightly better compression, but GIF is more widely supported. For small images with few colours, there isn't much difference between them.

Quote by CTEonmaybe on top of subscribed series (and probably threads as well because people might want to track their posts for response from others)

Did you notice Participated Threads in the sidebar?

Quote by BrainWalkerRecently, however, I discovered that it only seems to go up to 24 bit (16 million colors) color depth, and the criteria calls for 32.

As far as I know...
32-bit colour is just 24-bit colour with an alpha channel (defines which parts of the image are transparent). Jpeg images don't support transparency, so there's effectively no difference. Don't worry about it.

Now that you mention it, deleting old threads would probably affect some peoples levels as well. Best to leave it alone, I doubt the forum is using much of the site's resources compared to the gallery areas.

btw, wasn't there already a thread about this? *g*

Quote by Kirtaithe thumbnails on the gallery browsing pages often fail to load

That's not a firefox issue, some of the thumbnails just don't exist on the server.

- Will probably lead to more borderline-hentai stuff being submitted. But you know that already...
- You don't know for sure that they /aren't/ from a series. Remember that it's another 'Unknown' category you're creating.
- Some of these replies seem to think this will move the ecchi stuff out of their sight if they don't want to see it, but it won't really. (I'm assuming:) It won't be a new scan/etc type, just a new category. So it'll only really clean up 'Unknown' and 'Other', you'll still see the same ecchi stuff if you browse 'female scans', 'all scans', etc.
I guess that's where the hiding-by-age comes in... but it'll only work for ecchi images when the series is unknown? that's not really very effective.

Splitting a few themed subcategories (eg. Ecchi) off from "Unknown/Other" could work quite well, just choose the topics carefully (not too specific, not too broad). It is quite unwieldy the way it is now.

Quote by Jim3535I seem to be experiencing some server issues at the moment. At times some of the thumbnails fail to load while browsing the gallery. The same ones every time I reload the page (even with different browsers).

There do seem to be a bunch of thumbnails missing.

All these gallery entries have 404 thumbnails:
9
92 - 99
842
898 - 999
8972 - 9999
(eg: http://thumbserver.minitokyo.net/thumbs/8972.jpg doesn't exist)
and possibly others I haven't come across yet. There's sort of a pattern there...

PNG files can handle transparency, are probably smaller than PSD, and aren't software-dependent. You're limited to a single layer, but that's not so bad. PNG is cool.

It might be that the gallery entry was deleted just before you posted.

Heh, that must have been annoying. ^^; Still, stuff needed fixin'.

Quote by NurikoThis is the part that makes me question a lot of things: Do people have a motive to report other than for the benefit of the site?

Hmm, just wanting to stem the flow of misinformation, really. Because it's incredibly annoying to see a wallpaper with the wrong artist or series name emblazoned on it in delicately rendered text. -_-

Plus, while this site has an impressive gallery, if things aren't sorted well it's much less useful than it could be. Sorting also makes duplicates much easier to spot, and so on. I was sort of surprised to see the script doesn't reject duplicate uploads, though... it would save a few headaches if it did.
